The way you can tell the difference between literal, or a earthquake symbolically is, the things it is associated with, this earthquake for instance is associated with the Stars Sun, and Moon these are all symbolic. This earthquake was the warfare between Protestants, and Catholicism. This was from the opening of the sixth seal until after the thirty year war. After the reformation of Matron Luther the Protestants enjoyed some freedom. The Protestants began to loose their freedom to worship God in the year of 1608. These under the altar should wait until their Fellow Servants would be killed. They should be Killed as they were, should be fulfilled." These that would be killed were the Huguenot Protestants.
